The 1971 Attica uprising is typically discussed in terms of revolt and it's violent suppression, but ATTICA: ROOTS OF RESISTANCE looks at it within it's historical and political context: the peoples’ liberation movements of the 1960’s and 70’s and the radical identification across racial difference that was at the heart of the prisoners’ organizing. It is both an inspiring tale of the potential of resistance and a warning about the extent to which the state will go to repress whatever challenges it.
